Countries that knew the strength of "tanks" in WW1 and 2 were looking for various countermeasures. Among them, the anti-tank weapon put into practical use by the United States in 1942 is the "2.36-inch rocket launcher M1," commonly known as the "bazooka." This weapon, which had the power to destroy a tank with a single soldier, was such a presence that the Allied commander, General Eisenhower, called it "one of the weapons that led to victory in the war." The name "bazooka" is a nickname given because it resembles a prop instrument (bazooka) used by stage performer Bob Burns.
