The side-scrolling shoot ’em up ‘Formation Z’, which was released as an arcade game in 1984 and ported to home consoles in 1985. The player’s craft in the game, the shape-shifting combat mech ‘Ixpel’, has undergone a design refinement by mechanical designer Kanetake Ebikawa and is now available as a plastic model kit—the first release under the GM²I (GM-I) brand! Thanks to Kanetake Ebikawa’s design refinements, the model achieves a sleek and sharp aesthetic in both its ground form (robot) and aerial form (fighter)! The ground and aerial forms can be recreated by swapping parts.

*GM²I (GM-I) is a brand that produces plastic model kits of mecha featured in classic video games of yesteryear. The design refinements were handled by Kanetake Ebikawa (notable works: ‘Mobile Suit Gundam 00’, ‘Full Metal Panic!’ series) and Takayuki Yanase (notable works: ‘Mazinger Z: Infinity’, Nintendo Switch ‘Xenoblade Chronicles X Definitive Edition’). Takanobu Terada (notable works: ‘Super Robot Wars’ series) also participated as producer.
